Events and Performances

Restoration of Innocence 22nd December with Tanmoy Bose and Blossomy

  • On December 22nd, Sanved dancers will collaborate with the famous musicians Tanmoy Bose and Blossomy in staging a performance entitled, Restoration of Innocence at the Rajarhat City Center in Kolkata. The show will serve as the culmination of a workshop bringing training in dance and music to the survivors of trafficking and gender based violence.

Violence Against Women Fortnight

  • From November 25 through December 10, Kolkata Sanved helped to promote the Fortnight to End Violence Against Women by staging awareness raising performances across Kolkata. In collaboration with Parichiti, a women’s rights organization, our dancers brought awareness to women’s issues to the general public on railway platforms and in local communities. Performance in collaboration with Sanchari Kalakendra on 26th November

  • On November 26, Kolkata Sanved staged a performance in collaboration with Sanchari Kalakendra, an organization propagating the culture and legacy of Rabindranath Tagore, to celebrate the visionary’s dedication to the arts and to humanity. See backstage photos from the event on facebook.

Childrens day 14th November

  • In celebration of Children’s Day on November 14th, Kolkata Sanved staged a grand performance at Max Meuller Bhavan in Kolkata. Hundreds of children who are engaged in our dance movement therapy programs at partner organizations in Kolkata showcased their skills on stage in celebration of children’s rights.

AWARD: 11th March 2011 New York USA

  • Kolkata Sanved's Founder Director Sohini Chakraborty received the prestigious �THE DVF Award� 2011. The Awarding ceremony took place at United Nations, New York on 11th March 2011 at the Women in the World Summit.
  • The DVF Awards was created by Diane von Furstenberg and the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation to recognize and support women who are using their resources, commitment and visibility to transform the lives of other women. These are women who have had the courage to fight, the power to survive and the leadership to inspire.

Beyond Sport Event Chicago 2010

  • Kolkata Sanved core programme " SAVING LIVES THROUGH DANCE" showcased at the Beyond Sport 2010 event at Chicago 27th-30th October 2010.

    According to Beyond Sport "Saving Lives Through Dance have created a curriculum that is of such quality that it can and has been be shared with by partners around the world. "

GAATW IS Conference at Bangkok:

  • Kolkata Sanved invited to lead a workshop and perform at GAATW-IS (Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women International Secretariat) International Conference 6-7th July 2010 at Bangkok, Thailand.

MANTHAN- Organised by Sanjog and Groupe Developpment

  • Invited to speak on their 5th Annual International Conference on "Language(s) of Theater" held from 28th - 30th January 2009. Organized by Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Indian Society for Theatre Research. Theme was: Power of Body Language through Dance and Movement

April 29, 2008: Dance in Outreach

  • Kolkata Sanved and World Dance Alliance (West Bengal) in collaboration with Eastern Zonal Culturul Center (EZCC) celebrated the power of dance with ?Dance in Outreach? focusing on the possible roles of dance as advocacy and how it can and does make a difference to so many lives, especially bringing change in the lives of special children, victim of violence, mentally challenge and children from the disadvantaged strata of society. The programme was inaugurated by Amala Shankar.

    Over 101 children and young adults from diverse backgrounds participated in the performance, helping to spread the powerful message of dance. The celebration included works by Kolkata Sanved?s own Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) trainers with children from their regular DMT classes at All Bengal Women?s Union , APNE AAP Women Worldwide , Nirman and Newlight. A short documentary on one of the DMT trainer?s work with mental health patients at Lumbini Park Mental Hospital was also presented.

Regional Workshop on Dance Movement Therapy - March 2008

  • Sri Gopal Krishna Gandhi, the Governor of West Bengal formally launched Kolkata Sanved?s Programme "Saving Lives Through Dance" on March 30, 2007. Through this event, we reached out to the public regarding the Process of Dance Movement Therapy along with the development of the Core Trainers. The trainers played a major role in the whole programme and participated in meetings and networking for the event.

UNIFEM & UNDP Regional High Level Consultation-2006

  • Sohini Chakraborty was invited on behalf of Kolkata Sanved to speak on using Dance Movement as mental health in human rights perspectives at the Regional High Level consultation at Kathmandu, Nepal (22-24th May 2006), organised by UNIFEM & UNDP.
HOUSE OF COMMONS: 2004
  • Invited to the London House of Commons and Wales for dance performance, advocacy, and workshop in 2004. Organised by Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council, Christian-Aid, Urdd Gobaith Cymru and Sanlaap.

AMERICAN DANCE THERAPY CONFERENCE-2004, 2005, 2006

  • Represented India for the first time with an invitation from the American Dance Therapy Association to attend the International Dance Therapy Conference held 7-10th October, 2004 in New Orleans and 10-15th October in Washington DC. This programme was supported by the US State Department of Trafficking in Persons.
  • 16th ? 5th Nov. 2005, Nashville and Washington DC , Speaker of the International Panel of Dance Therapy conference. programme supported by Alyse Nelson Bloom, Vital Voices and Georgetown University.

This was a part of Overcoming the Obstacles to Equality, Development and Peace, hosted by Vital Voices Global Partnership. The conference marked a Global Working Session to commemorate the 15-year anniversary of the UN Fourth World Conference on Women.
